Relationship between Mental Health and Academic Performance

I am Aashna Sadhnani, a final year Psychology undergraduate student, inviting you to take part in a study investigating the relationship between student mental-health and self-reported academic performance. This study involves the completion of two questionnaires, taking approximately 30 minutes to complete. After the questionnaires, you will also be required to provide the most recently acquired grades for university assignments. The questions may be sensitive in nature; in case of distress caused unto yourself, some helpful contact details will be provided at the end of this form. All participant data will be anonymized and made only available to the researcher (myself) and the research supervisor.

Participation is voluntary and participants have the right to withdraw from the study at any time, with no consequence to your grade or treatment as a student – course credits will still be awarded for time spent. Once participants have completed the study, their data cannot be removed as personal information is no longer linked to the data.

Any further questions or enquiries can be made to myself via email by contacting: ass1n17@soton.ac.uk. If participation in this study causes distress or raises any issues, I recommend you contact one of the following:

If you have questions about your rights as a participant in this research, or if you feel that you have been placed at risk, you may contact the Chair of the Ethics Committee, Psychology, University of Southampton, Southampton, SO17 1BJ. Phone: +44 (0)23 8059 3856, email fshs-rso@soton.ac.uk
